Hello My Name Is...
I have been with Central Union School District for 34 years. Twenty seven of those years were at Central School and now I am at Stratford.
Curriculum for fourth grade is based on the Common Core State Standards. Our English Language Arts program is McGraw - Hill. Students participate in whole class discussions as well as in leveled reading groups. Daily lessons include oral language practice, vocabulary building, listening comprehension, reading comprehension and fluency, writing, and English Language Development. Our math program is McGraw - Hill as well. Students learn the basic skills and also enjoy doing many "hands on" activities. Social Studies is integrated throughout the units, and students keep up on current events by reading Scholastic News each week. The fourth graders have music on Mondays and bells on Wednesdays with Mrs. Natoli, PE with Mr. Jacobs on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and science with Mrs. Stone Tuesdays through Fridays. They are also able to visit the library every Tuesday to check out books and listen to stories. Our District is in the process of implementing the Common Core State Standards at every grade level. I spent the first few years of my life in Tokyo, Japan and then moved with my family to Alexandria, Virginia. I attended Tulane University in New Orleans and participated in their Junior Year Abroad program in Madrid, Spain. After graduating from Tulane, I spent the next three years taking graduate courses at the University of Virginia and Syracuse University. While I was at Syracuse U., I was given the opportunity to teach Spanish grammar for two years to the Freshmen and Sophmores at that university. I moved to California in 1980 and received a Multiple Subjects teaching credential from Fresno State University. I earned a BCLAD credential several years later and now enjoy being able to work with fourth graders at Stratford Elementary.
